The Matinee pilot

A calm library for the YouTube videos you want to keep.

Thank you for trying Matinee before anyone else. It's early, and you're welcome to pass this page on to anyone who'd like it.

What Matinee is

Matinee sits beside YouTube in Chrome's side panel. Save the video you're watching in one tap, sort your saves into folders, and find them again in seconds. Bring in your Watch Later and playlists in one go. Everything stays on your own computer: there's no account, and nothing is sent to us.

Install it

  1. Open the Matinee page in the Chrome Web Store: Install Matinee. It's unlisted, so only people with this link can find it.
  2. Press Add to Chrome, then pin Matinee from the puzzle-piece menu so its icon is always there.
  3. Open any YouTube video and click the icon. The side panel opens beside the video.

Your library is safe

Matinee keeps its own list inside Chrome. It never changes your YouTube account: your Watch Later, playlists, likes and history are untouched (importing only reads them). Removing Matinee deletes Matinee's list only, so back it up first.

Settings → Back up now does it in one tap.

Things to try

There's no manual on purpose: we want to see what makes sense without one.

What we'd like to learn, and how to tell us

Three questions, over four weeks:

  1. Could you use it without a manual? What did you try first? Where did you get stuck?
  2. Did you keep using it? Still using it after two weeks, and after four? What for?
  3. Love, hate, wish: one of each.

Tell us at any time by email at matineepilot@gmail.com. In Matinee, Settings → Help & feedback opens an email to the same address. We'll check in after the first week and again at the end.

What might come next

Ideas we're weighing, shaped by what you tell us and not promised: searching inside what's said in videos, and sorting suggestions that run on your own computer.

Your thank-you: Founder access

Everyone in the pilot gets Founder access: Matinee Pro, every future Pro version and every pack, for good.
